Surveying for built up areas in Nakhon Pathom Province with Remote Sensing from Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2 Imagery.

Abstract

The study of the comparison of the accuracy from satellite imagery from Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2A for the survey of urban and build-up area of ​​Nakhon Pathom Province. The objective of this study is to compare land use patterns and land cover analysis from the Landsat 8 OLI / TIRS and Sentinel 2A. In addition, the expansion of cities and various constructions in Nakhon Pathom province in 1997 and 2018 are also compared. The method in analysis are to perform the supervised classification of Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2 imagery and then, test the accuracy by processing High resolution imaging which can notice with human eyes.         

            As a result, the satellite images from Sentinel 2A, with 87.8 percent of the accuracy, are more accurate than the satellite images from Landsat 8 OLI, which have 83.3 percent of the accuracy. For the city expansion in Nakhon Pathom province, this research has noticed that the land uses from 1997 until the present day have transformed from agricultural areas into urban and construction areas. It is shown that the city expansion coherently grows along with the roads which connect cities to cities, especially in Muaeng Nakhon Pathom, Kamphaeng Saen and Nakhon Chai Si district. The result here can be useful for city planning and development in the future. Moreover, the concept of city expansion which has been used on this research can be applied to study in any other areas.
